I watched “The Social Dilemma” on Netflix today. I like the movie! A good movie with a lot of things people from within my bubble probably already know. And a lot of reasons to stay away from (classic) social media.

Watched The Social Dilemma now as well. Background music was annoying and distracting but overall a good one. Absolutely nails my own aversion against especially FB.

Kinda sad that there was zero talk about alternatives that do exist nowadays but I understand that the focus is on the big ads driven ones.

Based on the multi-award winning Girl Genius comic series, Rain Games (known for Teslagrad, World to the West) have launched their first Kickstarter for Girl Genius - Adventures In Castle Heterodyne. What is it? Their plan is to create 3D action-adventure metroidvania, where you play as the main pr...

Ow wow. Huge fan of the Girl Genius comics. Hope this Kickstarter for a game will make it. For science!

Just another manic Monday by ShawshankShawshank (voidifremoved.net)
Well, it’s Monday. I’m up, showered, and have a cup of coffee in front of me. I got the local CTV news station on. It’s a crisp 6c outside this morning. I have the ingredients for a snack for Neal on the counter, I’ll try to elbow my way into the kitchen to make that, while my mom is outside...

What if I told you that Germans struggle with grammar too? 😀

Added Webmention support to the blog by Wladimir PalantWladimir Palant (Almost Secure)
A discussion on Mastodon convinced me to take a look at the Webmention standard, and I even implemented a receiver for this blog.

Awesome, @WPalant@infosec.exchange is giving Webmentions a try and that’s totally not my fault 😁

Hope this works out for you too 👍 It’s intriguing how your focus is on the security side of things. Most people I know use it simply for easier interactions and backfeeding. Let me know if you’re interested in a tour/demo 😉

Well I’ve run through rainbows and castles of candy by ShawshankShawshank (voidifremoved.net)
Guten Tag. Ich bin Eddie. Ich hab Brot und Wasser. Willkommen! That’s for all my new friends from Germany that have been visiting my site and poking around. Well good morning. Happy Tuesday. It’s overcast here this morning, but it’s supposed to get sunny, and hotter in a few hours. I’m sitti...

Promises castles of candy, has bread and water 🤣

Do any Open Source Licences require source history? by @edent (shkspr.mobi)
A question to the void. Are you entitled to get the source history of open source projects? Lots of Open Source licences give the consumer of software the right to a copy of the source code. For example, GPLv3 says that distributors of software have to: give anyone who possesses the object code … ...

I’ve a foggy memory of Apple doing this. Code they used came back altered in a bulk that was hard to get into upstream again. A lot of discussion was going on about this practice but I don’t recall the outcome.

Your Blog is Your Avatar by Ton Zijlstra (zylstra.org)
A few days ago Om Malik blogged about his writing advice, ‘write like a human‘, saying there’s no need for more bland mediocrity like ‘freeze-dried news reports’. Being real will always be as unique as yourself. It coincided with me rereading something I blogged around this time in 2003, s...

Thanks for this article, Ton. This picks up a lot of the web spirits from years ago before everybody went into full self displaying mode. I’m glad that there are still people writing and not just looking for the next cheap Likes acting “a life”.

Also I’m very curious about that couch-surfing initiative for bloggers you mentioned but the server doesn’t seem to deliver any more. I assume this project is gone?

Mailchimp gives me more than I want by elmineelmine (infullflow.net)
I discovered a disturbing thing yesterday when exporting my Mailchimp e-mail contacts for IFF. Mailchimp has more personal data than I asked for

Had no idea mailchimp does that. I mean I never used it myself for sending but I may have used it in the past as subscriber somewhere. Seems like another good reason to do the extra work of adding a mail forwarder for each sign-on that want’s mail. Thanks for pointing this issue out!
