Not writing often about music I hear but this is on my mind for years now. Listening to Vienna Teng (Cynthia Yih Shih) since ~2004 after beeing introduced to “Lullaby for a Stormy Night” and it has been on my playlist ever since. I’d like to recall that this is from a decade without Spotify or other streaming services and buying a CD from an independent record label based in the USA was not really feasible for a student on the continent.
So here is a singer that started her career at Stanford University, quit her job as coder at Cisco later and became a fulltime pianist, singer and songwriter. If that ain’t awesome I don’t know what is. After all, as a programmer addicted to music [especially for programming], I know that both is art.
The featured music video Level Up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4n_8R5lKnw) is crowd funded btw and reached it’s goal in no time back then. I’d love to see more like this even when her interests shifted to other things nowadays.
(And yeah her website is down for days now but I decided to post anyway :D)
@bekopharm That is a great brainwave share! She has been a favorite of mine since ‘Lullaby for a Stormy Night’ and whenever I sing her songs, it’s with my whole heart. 🎧 ❤️
I really hope you do get the chance to see her one day. Her live shows look so intimately amazing.
