Roaring AC mono block in the room but having to attend video conferences with talking? makes short work of background noise. Just run that neat little app, it’ll plug in right into your (default on most modern Linux PCs) and add the noise suppressor to the input device. To actually “listen” to the effect enable the monitor on the button on the bottom right. Tune it until no noise is picked up any more and test if talking still makes it to your headphones.

And that’s it. Video conferences without having to turn off the AC during the dreaded hot summer weeks.

(Also set a hotkey to mute mic system wide and learn some mic discipline but that’s another topic).

  1. @beko EasyEffects is so good! My old laptop's microphone was unusable on linux, it sounded horrible, but with EasyEffects it sounds so much better. Plus I love how you can easily increase the gain, my headphones mic is too quiet and on windows there's no easy way to increase the volume, but on linux with EasyEffects it's so.. well Easy.
